Biographical Information
Dr. Gatewood grew up in Raymond, MS and graduated with Special Distinction from Mississippi College in 1980. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry in 1984. After graduation, Dr. Gatewood served on the faculty at the School of Dentistry for two years before leaving for his residency in endodontics at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. He received a certificate in endodontics in 1988 and returned to Jackson, MS to enter private practice. While in practice, Dr. Gatewood was a part-time faculty member in the Dept. of Endodontics. In 1993, Dr. Gatewood joined the faculty on a full-time basis. In 1994, he became board certified by the American Board of Endodontics. In July, 2005 Dr. Gatewood was appointed Chair of the Department of Endodontics. Dr. Gatewood serves on numerous School of Dentistry and Medical Center committees and has been President of the Mississippi Association of Endodontists for ten years. He has been Practice Administrator for University Dentists, PLLC for the past five years. In 2005, Dr. Gatewood was inducted into the Nelson Order at UMMC, an honor society recognizing teaching excellence. A member of the Mississippi Army National Guard since 1994, Dr. Gatewood was promoted in 2005 to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Gatewood and his wife Cathy and two sons, Robert and Matthew reside in Clinton, MS.
