The program offers a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Science to individuals who possess a degree in Medicine (MD), Dentistry (DDS or DMD), or Osteopathy (DO). The goal of the Craniofacial and Dental Research Program is to develop clinically oriented scientists who can conduct applied and basic biomedical research with an emphasis on disease related outcomes. The program of study is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of oral health problems while developing the theoretical and experimental expertise to initiate and conduct clinical research. There are a number of active research areas that are available for candidates to attain the required research and clinical training. Currently supported areas include, Biomaterials Development and Evaluation, Identification and Characterizations of Salivary Markers, and Basic Research and Treatment for Tobacco Cessation. Other potential areas for study include the Identification of the Relationships Between Oral Health and Systemic Diseases, and the Causes and Effects of Periodontal Disease. The Crainofacial and Dental Research Graduate Program is supported by a talented group of Clinicians and Basic Science Faculty. In addition, candidates may take advantage of the facilities and resources of the J. Perry McGinnis, Jr. Clinical Dental Research Center, the ACT (A Comprehensive Tobacco Program) Center, and the Biomaterials Research Laboratories. |
