The overall goal of the Department of Care Planning and Restorative
Sciences is to support the School of Dentistry in its mission to prepare
scientifically minded, clinically competent, community oriented, ethical
general dentists to serve the oral health needs of the state of Mississippi.
To achieve this overall goal, the department has set the following
specific objectives for our students. At the completion of the pre-clinical
and clinical curriculum the department has set forth, the student/graduate
should be able to complete the following performance objectives:

Correctly assess the patient’s general health, oral health,
and design an appropriate coordinated treatment plan to encompass
general health, oral and dental health needs

Correctly document patient information in the problem-oriented
dental record

Design an acceptable dental treatment plan for the patient including
appropriate preventive treatment regimens

Make and interpret intra and extra oral radiographs utilizing
accepted radiological techniques and equipment

Present various acceptable treatment plans to patients and discuss
various advantages and disadvantages of each

Develop the necessary psychomotor and perceptual skills to provide
comprehensive restorative care

Treat patients with a high degree of professionalism

Successfully participate in the clinical problem solving program

Develop the appropriate laboratory skills necessary for quality
patient care

Develop the skills necessary to communicate effectively with dental
laboratories
-
Successfully complete Part I and Part II of the National Dental
Board Examinations

Successfully complete competency examinations set forth in the
Student Handbook for Clinical Evaluation under this department

Develop the necessary skills to take State Board licensure examinations
In additional to the above educational objectives the Department of
Care Planning and Restorative Sciences will conduct research projects
to support the other missions of the School of Dentistry.
